In 2025, Dominic Lu, the Harvard-educated heir to the Serpent Banner Society, seeks to legitimize his family’s transnational empire. When he discovers an ancestral ledger connected to the 1663 “Bianji” literary inquisition and the execution of his ancestor, a Qing informant, he initiates an IPO as his flagship venture. However, his modernization triggers a lethal rebellion from the old guard, led by his brutal uncle, while an Interpol financial crimes investigator, descended from one of the executed scholars, closes a parallel net of legal prosecution. Caught between blood tradition and state law, Dominic learns that karma is not a ghost story but a logical, four-century-long causal chain completing its final link.
